SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State quarterback Armanti Edwards was named the Southern Conference's Offensive Player of the Month, the league office announced Thursday.
Edwards averaged 403 yards of total offense in five October games with 1,654 through the air (330.8 per game) and 361 on the ground (72.2 per game).  He accounted for 18 touchdowns (nine passing, nine rushing) while completing 72.2 percent of his passes (117-of-162) and throwing just one interception, including a streak of 130 pass attempts without an INT to close out the month.
The senior engineered an Appalachian offense that averaged 599.8 yards and 46.6 points per game on the month while leading the squad to a perfect 5-0 October.
In the process, the All-American became the first player in NCAA Division I (FCS or FBS) history with 9,000 passing yards and 4,000 rushing yards in a career. He achieved the unprecedented feat with a 14-yard completion to CoCo Hillary in the second quarter of last Saturday's 52-27 win over Furman.
Edwards and the seventh-ranked Mountaineers (6-2, 5-0 SoCon) look to stretch the hot streak into November when they host the first game of the month Saturday against Chattanooga. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
