Digging out of another winter storm
The National Weather Service reports up to 14 inches of snow
in Watauga County, with Blowing Rock receiving the most over the weekend. Scattered power outages were reported, with 77 in Watauga at
the height of the storm reported by Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation.
Electric service was completely restored by Sunday in the county. The snow isn't over for the week. NWS is predicting rain,
snow and sleet to begin Monday night and continue into Tuesday. The chance of
precipitation is low for Monday night at 30 percent with little or no snow
accumulation expected. The high temperature of 36 Tuesday could cause rain and
sleet between noon and 5 p.m. Tuesday, changing to snow and sleet afterward,
with new accumulation of one to two inches possible. Overnight Tuesday brings
an 80 percent chance of precipitation, with new accumulation between a tenth
and a quarter of inch possible. Wednesday will be colder with a high temperature of 27 in
the forecast and a 50 percent chance of snow showers. From Friday through Sunday, the N.C. Highway Patrol reports
nine vehicle accidents in Watauga. All were property damage only.
