A Mountain City man was arrested Tuesday on charges related to the manufacture of methamphetamine.

The Watauga County Sheriff's Office received information regarding an individual going to different pharmacies purchasing items used to manufacture methamphetamine. Detectives of the special operations unit were able to locate William Wayne Carpenter and stop his vehicle. They found evidence suggesting Carpenter had purchased iodine and quantities of pseudoephedrine products at multiple pharmacies.

He was charged with possession of methamphetamine precursor chemicals. Carpenter is scheduled to appear in district court on March 11 in lieu of a $12,000 bond.

The investigation is continuing and further arrests are expected.
