Yosef Club reaches record in donations

by Staff Reports

On the heels of Appalachian State announcement that it had accepted an invitation to join the Sun Belt Conference, supporters donated over $600,000 to the Yosef Club in the month of April, senior associate director of athletics Rick Beasley announced on Friday.

The $603,300 in donations to the Yosef Club -- Appalachian State athletics' fundraising arm -- is a single-month record. It beats the previous record of $434,370 that was raised last April. The record support came in the first month after Appalachian announced that it would join the NCAA Division I FBS Sun Belt Conference on July 1, 2014.

"We want to thank our terrific supporters for donating to the Yosef Club in record numbers last month," Beasley said. "We are proud and grateful that our supporters are committed to 'moving up' from a giving standpoint to coincide with the University's move to FBS and the Sun Belt Conference."

The record month pushed the Yosef Club's total for the 2012-13 fiscal year to $2,216,757, nearly $200,000 ahead of the $2,039,585 that was raised through last April. Last year, the Yosef Club enjoyed its seventh-straight record year by raising $2,720,012. The 2012-13 fiscal year ends on June 30.

"In addition to our supporters, I would be remiss if I didn't publicly thank the athletics development staff of Gerald Adams, Kindsay Reeder, Leigh Morrow, Natalie Harkey, Ginny Thompson, Mark LeGree, Sara Spain and Lauren Smith," Beasley said. "They work tirelessly to reach out to our supporters on a daily basis and encourage them to make a 'Championship Investment' in our student-athletes. Without their hard work, achieving this record would not be possible."
