Will Dicus Baseball Tournament begins Saturday

ament begins Saturday with baseball games being played at
Optimist Park and Industrial Park in Boone, and softball games at Ashe County High School.
Two of the softball tournaments are in round-robin format Saturday at Ashe High School. The 14-under softball tournament is a best-of-three between the Watauga Diamonds and Ashe Huskies at Watauga High School beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The baseball games are for teams in the under-8, under-10, under-12 and under-14 divisions. There were not enough teams in the under-18 division to stage games after it was originally thought there would be.
The tournament has served as a fundraiser for different causes during the last four years. It was used to raise money to help offset costs for the Dicus family when Will Dicus battled Ewing's Sarcoma.
It's also been used to help pay for an outside batting cage for the Watauga High School baseball and softball teams. The tournament raised $7,000 last year despite rain eliminating one of the days teams could play.
This year, Randall Miller Trucking of Boone is a sponsor of the tournament. The tournament is a nonprofit event.
