Watauga's volleyball team sweeps Alexander Central

Watauga’s volleyball team swept Alexander Central 3-0 Tuesday at Lentz-Eggers Gym.
The Pioneers claimed 25-10, 25-22 and 26-24 victory over the Cougars. The Pioneers broke a two-game losing streak after falling to West Henderson and Enka in a trimatch Saturday.
Watauga got 12 kills and six blocks from Rebecca Hayes and eight kills from Meredith Farthing. Channing Hagaman added six kills and 12 digs, while Ashlyn Van Dyke, who recently signed with Bluefield (Va.) College, had 22 digs. Sarah Combs handed out 29 assists.
Watauga’s junior varsity team needed three sets to beat Alexander Central 2-1. The Pioneers won the first set 25-22, lost the second 15-25, but rallied to win the third 25-22.
Blake Byrd finished with eight kills, while Sydney Farthing had six. Abby Hicks dished out 25 assists.
Watauga plays at South Caldwell Thursday.
