Watauga's girls' tennis team falls to Reagan

Watauga’s girls’ tennis team lost 7-2 to Reagan in the second round of the state 2-A playoffs.
Watauga got singles victories from Hannah Petersen and Nicole Fox. Petersen won her No. 2 seeded match 6-0, 6-0 over Maggie Smith, while Fox took a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Aja Grant.
The rest of the Pioneers were not so fortunate. No. 1 seed Meredith Smith lost 1-6, 7-5, 12-10, while Emily Burwell lost to China Brown 6-7 (1-7), 6-4, 11-9. Kelsi Kanoy fell at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-3, while No. 6 seeded Annika Davidson lost 6-2, 6-0 to Allison Griffith.
Watauga’s doubles teams also struggled. Smith and Fox lost to Mesalles and Grant 10-6 at No. 1 singles. Petersen and Burwell lost 10-5 to Smith and Brown at No. 2 singles, while Davidson and Kanoy lost to Griffith and Emma Snow 10-7.
Smith still has a weekend left in her season when she plays in the state 4-A individual championship in Raleigh. She takes on Maggie Kane in the first round of the tournament Friday.
