Watauga's JV teams sweep Wilkes Central

by Steve Behr Sports Editor

MORAVIAN FALLS — Watauga’s girls’ junior varsity basketball team took control of its game at Wilkes Central in the second half and beat the Eagles 45-34 Tuesday night.

The Pioneers outscored Wilkes Central 17-5 in the second quarter and took a 24-15 lead into halftime. Watauga never trailed the rest of the game by edging the Eagles 21-19 in the second half.

Watauga made 15-of-30 foul shots off 24 Wilkes Central fouls. The Eagles were not helped by the fact that out of a seven-player roster, two Eagles fouled out. Four other Eagles finished with four fouls and the other with three.

Sydney Farthing led the Pioneers with 12 points. Rachel Foutz added eight before fouling out, while Mary Seramur scored seven.

Heaven Walker and Katie Ferguson each scored nine points for Wilkes Central. Hannah Walker added eight.
