Watauga's 8-under baseball team wins 16-1

WILKESBORO -- Watauga's under-8 Tar Heel Watauga America All-Star team beat the Wilkes American-Green 16-1 at Rivers Edge Field Monday night.

 

Watauga had several extra base hits in the four-inning game. Watauga had a big second inning when Lex Washburn hit a home run, and Dalton Reese doubled and drove in two runs. Parker Isaacs hit a double with an RBI.

 

Jacob Moretz doubled with two RBIs in the third inning, and Camden Reese doubled in the fourth inning with three RBIs. Aiden Parks drove in another run with a single.

 

First baseman Drew Krause, second baseman Hank Matthews, and third baseman Dalton Reese played solid defense behind pitcher Dominick Brannon. The game ended when Matthews dove to stop a ground ball and threw to first to get the out.

 

Wilkes got a double by Elijah Johnson, who scored on a Cameron Layaou single in the fourth inning to drive in Wilkes' only run.

 

Watauga's next game was Tuesday against Wilkes American-Royal in Wilkesboro. The team plays tonight against an undetermined opponent.

 

In other games, Wilkes County beat Watauga 12-0 in the under-12 Tar Heel District 2 all-star baseball tournament. Watauga plays against either Ashe County or Alleghany in Ashe County at 7:30 p.m., tonight.

 

Watauga beat Wilkes 5-2 in the 10-under Tar Heel District 2 all-star baseball tournament Monday. Watauga played Wilkes National in Sparta at 5:30 p.m., tonight.

 

Watauga's 10-under all-star softball team plays at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday against Wilkes at Watauga High School.
