Watauga track captures sweep at Foard

NEWTON - Watauga's track and field teams both won their respective meets held at Fred. T. Foard Wednesday.
The boys finished with 114 points, well in front of second place Alexander Central's 99. South Caldwell was third with 25 and Foard was fourth with 17.
Watauga's girls won with 78 points, while Foard was second with 67.5. South Caldwell was third with 58 and Alexander Central fourth with 52.5.
The Pioneers' got first and second-place finishes from Jordan Pineda and Gabrielle Romano in the shot put and discus. Pineda won both events, throwing the shot put 47-feet, 11-inches and the discus 146-6.
Romano tossed the discus 143-9 and the shot put 42-7.
Mo Gore won the long jump with a leap of 19-7 and Reid Harris was second with a jump of 18-7. Cameron Hass was third in the 300 hurdles with a 47.20 and fourth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.40. Harris was fourth in the 100-meter dash with a 11.60. Trey Cavanaugh was fifth in the 100 with an 11.70.
Stephen Schmal was second in the 400-meter dash with a 53.80. Daniel Osborne was fifth. Ryan McGuire was fourth in the 200 with a 24.10.
The Pioneers also collected their share of points in the distance races. Osborne won the 800-meter run with a 2:12.40, while Ethan Poulos was third with a 2:16.30. Peter Vandenberg was second in the 1,600-meter run with a 4:55.10 and Bryan Brackney was third with a time of 5:04.70. Vandenberg was also fifth in the 800.
Clark Brackney won the 3,200-meter run with a 10:38.80, while Andrew Vandenberg was second with a 10:43.60. Watauga's 1,600-meter relay team also captured a victory.
Distance running also provided plenty of points for Watauga's girls' team. Kayla Schneider won the 3,200 with an 11:49.90, while Hannah Barbour was second with a 13:36.30. Ingrid Forsyth completed the 1-2-3 sweep with a time of 13:45.00.
Barbour won the 1,600 with a 5:40.72 and was followed by second-place finisher Madison Harmon, who clocked a 6:05.42. Doria Kosmala was sixth and Molly Ruble seventh.
Watauga also dominated the 300-meter hurdles by claiming the top four spots. Kasey Jones won with a time of 50.00, while Laura Gulliver was second with a 5.50. Kenyon Hall was third with a 57.80 and Megan O'Keefe fourth with a 57.90. Jones and Hall finished 1-2 in the 100-meter hurdles with Jones clocking a time of 15.30 and Hall 18.70.
Julia Roberts won the 400 with a 1:04.30.
In the field events, Gulliver led a 1-2-3 finish in the triple jump with a leap of 29-11. Sydney Cook (29-0) was second and Tara Trivette (28-5 _) was third. Trivette won the high jump with a 4-8 and Cook was second with a 4-6. Jones won the long jump with a 14-5.
Laiken Williams was second in the discus (94-5) and Kathryn Smith was fourth (78-7). Smith was fourth in the shot put (27-5) and Williams fifth (26-11).
