Watauga softball team falls to Spartans

SAWMILLS — Watauga’s Riley Pudney scored all three runs for Watauga, but South Caldwell rallied with three runs in the fifth inning and claimed a 5-3 victory over the visiting Pioneers Tuesday.
Pudney hit a solo home run in the third inning, which gave Watauga a 2-1 victory. She finished 3-for-4 from the plate with two stolen bases. Savannah Drummonds went 1-for-2 with a triple and a walk, while Michala McCune was 1-for-4, giving the Pioneers five hits overall.
Kim Robinson took the loss for the Pioneers on the mound. Robinson allowed five hits, struck out seven and walked three. Both teams made two errors.
Watauga’s junior varsity team lost 14-9. The Pioneers got two hits, including a double, from Grace Plyler. Lindy Norris, Sydney Jones, Rachel Hawkins and Carrington Taylor each had hits for Watauga. They all scored a run, too.
Sarah Combs scored two runs after reaching base because of an error and a walk. Katie Repogle also scored a run. Watauga finished with seven hits.
The Pioneers play again at Hibriten on Friday.
