Watauga settles for 0-0 tie in boys' soccer
by Staff Reports
TAYLORSVILLE — After three big victories, Watauga’s soccer team ran into a lull Wednesday by settling for a 0-0 tie with Alexander Central.
The Pioneers (10-1-2, 2-0-1 NWC) knocked off No. 7 Fred T. Foard and No. 4 Hickory last week. On Monday, they beat a solid West Forsyth team.
But the Pioneers could not find the back of the Alexander Central goal despite outshooting the Cougars 45-5. The game included the two 45-minute halves combined with two 10-minute overtime periods.
But many of the Pioneers’ shots went either over, or wide of the Alexander Central goal. Other shots were saved from getting inside.
Watauga also failed to convert a penalty shot after Alex Parsons was fouled inside the 18-yard box.
Watauga’s junior varsity stayed unbeaten with a 2-0 victory over Alexander Central. The Pioneers (7-0-4) got two goals from Chase Palm. He scored his first goal just 10 minutes into the first half when he converted a free kick into a 1-0 lead.
Palm added a second goal with less than two minutes left in the game.
Watauga’s soccer teams host South Caldwell on Monday.
