Watauga releases football schedule

by Steve Behr Sports Editor

Watauga released its 2014 schedule Tuesday that includes five home games and six played away from Jack Groce Stadium.

The schedule is identical to the one Watauga played in 2013, except all of the games will be played at opposite sites. It begins Aug. 22 with a road game at Alexander Central, and continues with a home game Aug. 29 against rival Ashe County.

Watauga also has home games on Sept. 12 against rival Avery, and against Northwestern Conference opponents Fred T. Foard on Oct. 3, Patton on Oct. 24 and South Caldwell on Nov. 7.

The Pioneers play their endowment game at Wilkes Central on Sept. 19. Their road games against Northwestern Conference programs include Sept. 26 at St. Stephens, Oct. 10 at Freedom, Oct. 17 at Hibriten and Oct. 31 at Hickory.

Watauga also has a bye on Sept. 5

All of the games are on a Friday, and all begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Watauga junior varsity plays the same schedule that the varsity plays, but at opposite sites. The lone difference is Watauga won't play Wilkes Central, since there are no endowment games for the junior varsity.

The JVs play on the Thursday before the varsity games at 7 p.m.
