Watauga girls' soccer team settles for tie
by Staff Reports
Watauga's girls' soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 tie with Forbush in nonconference play Tuesday at Jack Groce Stadium
The Pioneers (3-0-2) struck quickly when Sierra Hill scored on an assist from Tristin Derrick. But Forbush (2-2-1) scored at the 18-minute mark of the first half to tie the game.
"I thought definitely we were the better team," Pioneers coach Brittany Bolick said. "They had one girl who was dangerous and played really hard. She would be great on any team, but overall, we were the better team. We possessed the ball better and we were more dangerous."
The Pioneers were more explosive in their three previous games, all victories. Watauga drubbed West Caldwell 6-0 in the Freedom Invitational Tournament on March 6.
Watauga had several other chances to score against Forbush, but could not finish.
"We had a lot of good looks," Bolick said. "On a couple of plays, we had a one-on-one and we ended up playing it to the keeper or playing over the fence or making one pass too many. We kind of went back to the same thing we did at Alexander Central where we try to do too much."
Watauga plays at Avery on Friday.
