Watauga girls LAX team rallies past West Forsyth

by Staff Reports

West Forsyth found out that if there was one thing Watauga's girls' lacrosse team would not do is quit.

The Pioneers overcame a 5-1 deficit to claim a 10-9 victory over West Forsyth Friday night. Watauga fell behind 5-1 early in the first half, but rallied to take a 7-6 halftime lead.

"That may have been the most exciting game of lacrosse I've ever been a part of," Watauga coach Holly Quick said. "What a way to end the season."

West Forsyth did not go down easily. The Titans retook the lead by a goal, but Watauga scored the next two to take a 10-9 lead late in the game.

Watauga's defense was able to keep the lead, which gave the Pioneers the victory.

Goalkeeper Meghan Bisignani had eight overall saves, six in the second half. West Forsyth took nine shots in the second half.

"That's a 67 percent save percentage for the half, which is incredible," Quick said.
Elle Sloboda led Watauga with four goals. Courtney Kapral added three goals, while Katie Marks had a goal and two assists.

Cami Hastings and Molly Gilleskie each scored a goal for the Pioneers.

"I am so proud of these ladies for playing with such heart and drive after a really tough season," Quick said.
