Watauga boys', girls' JVs sweep Ashe

Watauga's girls' junior varsity basketball team took a big first-half lead and held on to claim a 29-25 victory over Ashe at Lentz-Eggers Gym Friday night.
Watauga led 17-9 at halftime and 21-15 into the fourth quarter. Ashe scored the first three points of the fourth to pull to 21-18, but Watauga answered by taking a 29-20 lead. Ashe scored the final five points of the game, but could not get closer.
Sydney Farthing led the Mountaineers with 10 points. Karson Hamrick added six points and Tristin Derrick scored four.
Alayne Spencer scored 11 points for Ashe. Gianna Federick and Brooke Price each added four points for the Huskies.

WHS JVS 43, ASHE 30
Watauga's boys' jayvee basketball team avenged an earlier loss to Ashe by beating the Huskies 43-30 Friday night at Lentz-Eggers Gym.
Levi Wilcox led all scorers with 15 points Holden Russell and Caleb Bryson scored eight for the Pioneers, who took a 25-17 halftime lead.
CoCo Clay led the Huskies with 11 points.
Watauga's victory avenged a 47-45 loss to the Huskies in the junior varsity tournament at Ashe's gym on Nov. 30. Watauga led by 12 late in the third quarter, but could not hold the lead.
