Watauga JV boys cruise past Indians

HICKORY -- Watauga's junior varsity boys' basketball team received balanced scoring in its 50-21 victory over host St. Stephens Friday night.
The Pioneers (13-5, 5-1) got 13 points from center Jeremy Ringler and nine points from guard Caleb Bryson.
Five Pioneers -- Holden Russell, Nick Sherman, Dillon Carmichael, Zach Valet and Harrison Cobb -- scored four points each.
Jerron Mills added six points and Levi Wilcox had two for Watauga.
The Pioneers gradually pulled away from St. Stephens, which had nobody scored more than four points. Watauga outscored St. Stephens 14-6 in the second quarter to take a 23-10 lead.
Watauga continued its offensive pressure by outscoring the Indians 27-11 in the second half. The Pioneers held a 12-3 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.

ST. STEPHENS GIRLS 39, WHS 36
HICKORY -- Watauga's junior varsity girls' basketball team was outscored 9-4 in the fourth quarter and fell 39-36 to host St. Stephens Friday.
St. Stephens got 14 points from Kinsey Richie and 13 points from Sierra Hines.
Watauga's Olivia Williamson and Karson Hamrick each scored eight points. Katie Hamrick added six points and Tristin Derrick scored four for the Pioneers.
Watauga, trailing 23-22 at halftime, outscored the Indians 10-4 in the third quarter to claim a 32-27 lead. Watauga struggled to score in the fourth quarter and could not hold its lead.

LATE WEDNESDAY
SAWMILLS -- South Caldwell girls' JVs outlasted visiting Watauga 28-25 Wednesday.
Karson Hamrick scored 16 points for the Pioneers. Allison Quinn scored three more for Watauga.
