Washington named SoCon's Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --Appalachian State wide receiver Tony Washington has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Washington's career day helped lift Appalachian State to a 38-14 win over 24th-ranked Georgia Southern. His 129 yards came on five receptions, including a 29-yard touchdown that capped six-straight scoring drives for the Mountaineers and gave Appalachian a commanding 31-7 lead late in the third quarter.
For the season, Washington ranks second in the SoCon with 589 receiving yards and third with 43 receptions.
In the classroom, the senior carries a 3.80 cumulative grade point average in architectural design. He was named Appalachian State's Most Outstanding Architectural Design Student in 2012-13 and was the winner of the architectural design department's portfolio competition last semester.
He is a member of the Dean's List and the Appalachian State athletics and Southern Conference academic honor rolls and was named first-team academic all-district and an FCS Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star in 2012.
