WHS volleyball team trips Alexander Central

TAYLORSVILLE — Watauga’s volleyball team needed four sets to beat Alexander Central 3-1 Thursday.

The Pioneers lost the first set 17-25, but rallied to win 25-16, 25-20, 25-20.

Rebecca Hayes led the Watauga offense with 15 kills. Kiersten McClannon added 12 kills, and setter Kristen Carter handed out 41 assists.

Defensively, libero Ashlyn Van Dyke had 22 digs, and McClannon added 11. Hayes blocked six Alexander Central kill attempts.

Watauga’s jayvee team won in straight sets 27-25, 25-13. Sarah Combs had 15 assists, five serving aces, three kills and two blocks for the Pioneers. Blake Byrd and Sydney Farthing each had five kills, and Makenzie Presnell had six digs defensively.

Watauga host South Caldwell Tuesday.
