WHS volleyball team sweeps East Wilkes

EAST BEND -- Watauga's volleyball team claimed a 3-0 victory over East Wilkes in a nonconference match Saturday.
The Pioneers won the first game 25-9 and followed with a 25-11 in the second game and a 25-17 victory in the third. Meredith Farthing led the Pioneers' offense with 14 kills, while Rebecca Hays had nine kills, eight blocks and five serving aces.
Whitney Dunnigan dished out 15 assists, while Kiersten McClannon had four service aces and Abby Hicks added four more. McClannon also had five digs defensively.
Watauga's junior varsity also swept East Wilkes 25-14, 25-22.
Alexis Villarosa finished with seven kills and two blocks, while Callie Idol had five kills. Reina Marze handed out 16 assists and Savannah Rusher handed out nine more.
Tayler McCune had eight digs defensively to go with two serving aces.
Watauga plays at St. Stephens today and is at home against Fred T. Foard on Wednesday.
