WHS tennis snaps losing streak

The Watauga High School boy's tennis team finally got back in the win column on Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers (4-5 overall; 2-1 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) defeated Alexander Central 6-3 at the WHS Tennis Courts -- WHS' first victory in nearly three weeks. WHS defeated Fred T. Foard on March 22.

The Pioneers wasted little time disposing of the Cougars. The Pioneers reeled off four consecutive wins in singles play to take a commanding 5-1 lead into doubles. Dristen Trate got the streak going as he knocked off Spencer Patterson in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

It was all downhill from there for the Cougars. Will Spinetto clinched the match with a straight-sets victory at No. 6 singles. He defeated Lawrence Graham, 6-4, 6-4.

The Pioneers is scheduled to play South Caldwell today in Sawmills.
