WHS tennis sends five to regional

Watauga's boys' tennis team will send five players to the state 4-A regional tournament after two of the Pioneers' doubles teams finished in the top two slots in the Northwestern Conference Tournament.
The Pioneers' No. 1 doubles team of Landon Taylor and Harrison Battle beat Watauga teammates Caleb Gould and Brody O'Neal 6-0, 6-3 in the NWC Tournament finals.
Taylor and Harrison cruised to the final with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Alexander Central's team of Patterson and Chapman. Gould and O'Neal won their semifinal over Benfield and Lund 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
All four of Watauga's players qualified for the regional.
Watauga's Dristen Trate also qualified for the regional by reaching the singles final, but fell to Jackson Walsh of Alexander Central 7-5, 6-2. He qualified for the final by beating South Caldwell's Landon Smith.
