BIRMINGHAM Ala. -- Appalachian State broke a six-game losing streak with a 6-3 victory over Samford Saturday.

Tyler Moore, who was roughed up in his last two starts, rebounded Saturday by tossing a complete game. He gave up eight hits, just two runs and struck out three. Moore walked just one batter.

Appalachian State built a 5-0 lead until Samford scored three runs in the eighth. The Mountaineers added another run in the ninth to close out the scoring.

Tyler Zupcic had two hits, including a home run and Michael Pierson went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs score. One of his hits was a double.

The Mountaineers finished with seven hits, but also received six walks from four different pitchers. Jared Brasher gave up four runs, three of them earned, in six innings on the mound for Samford.

T.J. Dixon drove in two runs for Samford, while Heath Quinn had two hits for the Bulldogs.

The reams play again Sunday in the third game of their three-game series.
