WHS softball snaps five-game slide
Winning pitcher Kim Robinson went the distance and picked up the win. But the senior had her anxious moments. She scattered two hits and struck out nine, but she also walked 10 batters.
The Pioneers snapped a scoreless tie with four runs in the third inning; the team followed that up with three more tallies in the fourth. Riley Pudney was 1-1 with two walks, two runs scored and two stolen bases; Michala McCune was 1-2 with a double and run scored; the Pioneers made six hits.
"It was truly a team effort," WHS coach Stephanie Kostis said. "Everyone on the roster got to play and each got at least one at bat. I love when we are able to do that."
The Pioneers were scheduled to play Ashe County today, but that game was dropped from the schedule because the Huskies have to make up a Mountain Valley 1A/2A Conference game. WHS will now play Wilkes Central in a varsity-only game at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at home. The Ashe County game will not be rescheduled.
