WHS girls' tennis team beats Ashe 7-2

WEST JEFFERSON -- Watauga's girls' tennis team won five out of six singles matches in the Pioneers' 7-2 victory over host Ashe County on Monday afternoon.

Watauga's No. 1 seed Meghan Smith beat Hallie Brown 6-0, 6-0, while No. 2 seed Kelsi Kanoy beat Maggie Witherspoon. Annika Davidson beat Grace Miller 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Savannah Copeland beat May Tugman 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4.

Eleanor Sprague tripped Erin Griffin at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-2. Ashe County's Ella Copeland beat Watauga's Ali Maupin 6-2, 4-6, 12-10.

Watauga also won two out of the three doubles matches. Copeland teamed with Smith to beat Brown and Witherspoon 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Watauga's Addie Hall and Spraigue also won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles. Ashe County's Miller and Tugman won at No. 2 doubles 8-4.
