WHS girls' soccer team rallies past Cougars

Watauga's girls' soccer team needed to come from behind to beat Alexander Central 3-2 at Jack Groce Stadium Tuesday night.
The Pioneers got a goal with just 11 minutes left in the second half when Hannah Younger scored her second goal of the game. Younger took a crossing pass from Tristin Derrick and scored from 20 yards out to put the Pioneers in front 3-2.
Younger tied the game 2-2 seven minutes earlier with a goal off an assist from Tori Derrick.
Watauga actually took a 1-0 lead 22 minutes into the first half with a goal from Ivy Wilcox. Samara Critcher delivered the assists on the play.
Alexander Central tied the game 1-1 with a goal at the 30-minute mark, and took a 2-1 lead into halftime by scoring another goal five minutes later.
Watauga's JVs had to settle for a 1-1 tie with the Cougars Tuesday at Jack Groce Stadium.
Watauga held a 1-0 lead for most of the game after Meghan Gottfried scored nine minutes into the game. Alexander Central tied the game with 12 minutes left in the second half.
Watauga hosts South Caldwell on Friday.
