WHS girls' soccer team blanks Spartans

SAWMILLS — Watauga’s girls’ soccer team claimed a 3-0 victory over host South Caldwell Tuesday night.
The Pioneers got two goals from Hannah Younger and a third by Cole Ellis. Younger scored her first goal on a penalty kick just eight minutes into the game to put the Pioneers in front 1-0.
Three minutes later, Younger took a pass from Lillie Brady and scored, giving the Pioneers a 2-0 advantage.
Ellis scored her goal 16 minutes into the second half. Kathryn Stevens picked up the assist, which put Watauga in front 3-0. The Pioneers outshot the Spartans 11-2, and Watauga goalkeeper Heather Ostwalt made one save.
Watauga’s junior varsity captured a 2-1 victory. Megan Gotfried scored both goals, the first that was assisted by Jenny Schlenker just four minutes into the game.
