WHS girls' soccer blanks McDowell

Watauga's girl's soccer team claimed a 3-0 victory over visiting McDowell by scoring two goals late in the second half.
The Pioneers already led 1-0 by halftime when Sierra Hill scored on a breakaway opportunity. Hill unloaded a left-footed finish that found the back of the Titans' goal.
Watauga's Mac Utter got involved in the Pioneers' final two goals. She picked up an assist on a goal scored by Hali Wood-Miller in the 64th minute of the game to put Watauga in front 2-0.
Utter put the finishing touch on the win by scoring after a long drive downfield with two minutes left in the game.
One day earlier, Watauga beat visiting Fred T. Foard 1-0 in a Northwestern Conference showdown at Jack Groce Stadium.
Tristin Derrick scored the game-winner 16 minutes into the match off a long crossing pass from Samara Critcher.
Watauga's junior varsity also won 4-0. Amanda Lubkemann scored on a penalty kick to break the scoring ice, and Sarah Patton added another goal to put Watauga in front 2-0 at halftime.
Grace Kleeberger scored Watauga's third goal, and Olivia Grimm closed out the scoring with the Pioneers' fourth goal of the game.
Watauga also beat Fred T. Foard 2-0 after getting second-half goals from Finley Collins and Megan Gottfried.
Watauga hosts Freedom in a nonconference match Friday night.
