WHS boys' track team wins Alexander meet

TAYLORSVILLE -- Watauga's boys' track and field team won a three-team meet held at Alexander Central Wednesday.

The Pioneers finished with 76.5 points, while Alexander Central was second with 68.25. Fred T. Foard was third with 30.25.

Watauga's girls' finished third in their meet with 28 points. Alexander Central cruised to a victory with 83.5 points, while Foard was second with 55.5.

In the boys' sprint events, Zach Styron won both hurdle events for the Pioneers. He captured the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 19.2 seconds, and followed with a time of 44.5 seconds to win the 300-hurdles.

Bryan Brackney added a victory in the 400-dash with a time of 53.0 seconds, while Matthew Hellenbrand was fourth.

Christian Bachman won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.6 seconds, and took second in the 100-dash with a time of 11.8 seconds. Dallas Trivette was fourth in both events  with a time of 12.1 in the 100 and 24.6 in the 200.

In field events, Kenan Foxx finished second in the shot put with a toss of 42-feet, 3-inches. Justin Hall was second in the long jump with a leap of 17-5 and second in the triple jump with a 34-7.

Watauga's distance runners also added team points. Josh Anderson led a 1-2-3 finish in the 800-run. Anderson won the event with a time of 2:12.0, one second faster than Michael Holland. He was second with a 2:13.

Drew Boyette was third with a 2:21 and Jacob Soule was fifth overall.

Anderson also led a 2-3-4 finish in the 1,600-meter run. He finished second with a time of 4:52.9.

Holland took third with a 5:02.2 and Drew Boyette was fourth with a 5:06.1.

Matthew Osborne finished second in the 3,200-run with an 11:13, while Brackney was third with an 11:27. Justin Reagan was sixth and Devin Windelspecht was seventh.

Watauga's relay teams also helped the Pioneers accumulate points. The Pioneers' 3,200-relay team won with a time of 9:03.

Watauga's 800-meter relay team also won with a time of 1:36.40, and the 1,600-relay with a 4:00.7.

Distance running provided the bulk of Watauga's points in the girls' meet. Doria Kosmala won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:48.4. Madison Harman was second with a 12:48.6.

Lynde Wangler finished second in the 1,600-run with a time of 5:54, while Kathleen Mansure was third with a 5:59.

Wangler also took second in the 800-run with a time of 2:44.8.

In the sprints, Olivia Handley was second in the 100-hurdles with a time of 20.9. Savanna Randle was third in the 100-meter dash with a 14.0 and Clare Harris was sixth with a 14.4. Kosmala was second in the 400-dash with a 1:05.

In the field events, Carrie Pennell was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 13-1 ΒΌ.

Watauga's 3,200-relay team was second with an 11:06.
