WHS boys' tennis team rolls past Spartans

SAWMILLS -- Watauga's boys' tennis team rolled to an 8-1 victory over host South Caldwell Tuesday.

The Pioneers won all six of the singles matches in straight sets. Watauga's Caleb Could, at No. 3 singles, and No. 5-seeded Brody O'Neal both won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0.

Watauga's Josh Lampkins won his match 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. Teammate Will Spinetto won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles, and Dristen Trate won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

Watauga's No. 1 seeded Landon Taylor beat Will Benfield 6-2, 6-4.

Trate and Taylor added an 8-2 victory in No. 1 doubles. Lampkins teamed with Blake Howser to win 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.

In exhibition matches, Micahel Welsh won his singles match 8-3, and the team of Phillip Bransford and Like Pifer won their doubles match 8-6.
