WHS boys' tennis team edges Hickory

Watauga scratched out a 5-4 victory over Hickory in boys' tennis Thursday.

The Pioneers grabbed four singles victories, but it was Watauga's No. 3 seeded doubles team of Will Spinetto and Josh Lampkins who gave the Pioneers the team victory. Spinetto and Lampkins beat Elliot Specht and William Einfalt 10-1 to push the Pioneers to the win.

The Pioneers laid the foundation for the team's victory in singles. No. 1 seed Landon Taylor needed three sets, but beat Luke Kessell 4-6, 6-4 1-0.

Caleb Gould cruised past Einfalt 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and Spinetto grabbed a 6-4, 6-3 win over Edgar Ellis at No. 4 singles.

Lampkins beat Tim Stilwell at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-2.

Watauga hosts Newton-Conover on Monday.
