CONCORD — Watauga’s tennis team beat Concord 5-4 in the Pioneers’ first match of the season.

Watauga was tied 3-3 with the Spiders going into doubles play. Landon Taylor and Harrison Battle won an 11-10 victory over B.J. Beacher and Ryan Harvey at No. 1 doubles, while Noah Moomaw and Will Spinetto combined at No. 3 doubles to beat Zane Rollins and Kevin Garcia 10-4.

Concord’s No. 2 team of Grant O’Brian and Casey Aldridge beat Watauga’s Caleb Gould and Dristan Trate 10-3.

Taylor and Battle also won their singles matches. Taylor, playing No. 1 singles, beat Beacher 6-2, 6-2. Playing No. 2 singles, Battle beat O’Brian 6-3, 6-3.

Trate beat Rollins 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.

Concord got a singles victory from Aldridge, Harvey and Ryan Kovacic. Aldridge beat Gould 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while Harvey beat Brody O’Neal at No. 4. Kovacic beat Moomaw at No. 6 singles 6-1, 4-6, 1-0.

Watauga is scheduled to play Thursday at Wilkes Central.
