Watauga’s boys’ soccer team made it two straight wins on its playoffs revenge tour Saturday night with a 1-0 victory over A.C. Reynolds at Jack Groce Stadium.
Alex Parsons got the game-winner after taking a Ryan Hellenbrand assist and putting it into the Rockets’ goal 19 minutes into the first half. It put Watauga into the Sweet 16 of the state 4-A playoffs.
Watauga’s defense took it from there by keeping the Rockets scoreless the rest of the game. The Pioneers posted their eighth shutout of the season. They play Hough High School Wednesday.
Watauga (17-3-3) lost to A.C. Reynolds (16-5-2) on Aug. 27. It broke a season-opening five-game winning streak. Watauga did not lose again until a 3-2 loss to Northwestern Conference power Hickory on Oct. 8.
Watauga also beat Mallard Creek 2-1 Oct. 31 after losing to them 2-1 in the 2011 playoffs.
