Valle Crucis plays Hardin Park in boys final

Hardin Park's middle school's boys' basketball team gets a chance to defend its 2012 tournament championship after beating Parkway 46-32 in the semifinals Monday at Lentz-Eggers Gym.
Hardin Park plays Valle Crucis in the finals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Lentz-Eggers Gym.
The Eagles (13-3) got 18 points from center August Sauls, who had six shots from the field and 6-of-7 from the foul line. Forward Evan Suggs added 14 points and Hardin Park point guard Corey West scored eight points.
Parkway (12-4), the 2011 tournament champs, got nine points from guard Hamilton Castle and six each from point guard Michael Whitt and six from center Owen Warmuth.
The Eagles gradually broke the game open by outscoring Parkway 16-10 in the third quarter. Trailing at halftime 18-17, Hardin Park went on a 9-2 run capped by a West basket, which gave the Eagles a 26-20 lead.
Hardin Park closed out the game with a 10-0 run by making 6-of-8 free throws.

Top-seeded Valle Crucis held off pesky Green Valley 25-20 in the second semifinal middle school boys' basketball tournament game played at Lentz-Eggers Gym Monday.
Valle Crucis (14-2) took a 12-6 halftime lead and stretched it to a 20-11 advantage by the end of the third quarter. But the Cougars, after taking a 25-15 lead on a Jack Akers basket, did not score the rest of the game.
Green Valley (11-5) also struggled offensively until late in the game when the Eagles got a 3-point goal from Lance Presnell and a stick back from Ervin Potter inside the game's final minute.
Valle Crucis got eight points from Bryce Wallace and six from Byers Carney. Jeremy Ringler scored four points.
Green Valley got seven points from Case Taylor and four from Antonio Romero.
