SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State women's basketball player Maryah Sydnor has been named the North Carolina Education Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 15, the league office announced Wednesday.

Sydnor is a junior exercise science major from Radford, Va., and holds a 3.40 GPA. Sydnor was a member of the academic all-conference team in 2013.

The junior forward averaged a double-double in a pair of games last week. She averaged 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds per game.

Sydnor scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in Appalachian State's 63-43 victory over Wofford on Jan. 6. She followed that performance by scoring 20 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in a 73-68 overtime loss to Chattanooga.

Sydnor hit 7-of-10 shots from the field and all all six of her free-throw attempts.

Sydnor currently leads the SoCon in scoring at 20.2 points per game and free-throw percentage by knocking down 88.6 percent of her shots from the foul line.

Also nominated for NCEL Student-Athlete of the Week were Davidson's Shannon Eriksson, Elon's Kelsey Harris, Furman's Jacob Behal, Chattanooga's Taylor Hall and Samford's Christy Robinson.
