Salisbury captures boys' tennis win over WHS

SALISBURY -- Watauga's boys' tennis team won just two singles matches in a 6-3 loss to Salisbury Thursday afternoon.

The Pioneers (2-2) got a 7-6, 6-4 singles victory from No. 2-seeded Drisren Trate, who beat Clint Comadoll. At No. 5 singles, Watauga's Brody O'Neal beat Chris Derrick 6-2, 6-4.

Watauga's other win was at No. 3 doubles. The Pioneers' team of Will Spinetto and Josh Lampkins beat Chris Derrick and David Derrick 9-8 in a pro set.

Watauga's four other singles players fell in straight sets. Landon Taylor lost to Michael Ogden 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while Salisbury's Spencer Storey beat Caleb Gould at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-2.
Spinetto and Lampkins also lost at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Abraham Post beat Spinetto 6-3, 6-3, while David Derrick beat Lampkins 6-1, 6-0.

Watauga returns to the court Monday to play at Newton Conover. The Pioneers host Wilkes Central on Wednesday in the first of five straight home matches.
