Red Tornadoes blank WHS soccer

Lauren Skoog scored three times to lift Hickory past the Pioneers 3-0 in a Northwestern 3A-4A match Tuesday night in Hickory. The win keeps the Red Tornadoes (8-0-2 overall; 5-0-1 NW3A/4A) tied for the league lead with St. Stephens. Sarah Henson had two assists and Erika Troutman had one assist for Hickory. Grayson Cameron registered her seventh shutout of the season.

Heather Ostwalt made seven saves for Watauga (3-4-3; 2-2-1) in the loss. The Red Tornadoes led 1-0 at halftime. Skoog scored in the 23rd, the 51st and the 69th minute. 

"Looking forward to playing them again at home for Senior Night," WHS coach Brittany Bolick said. "I strongly believe we can get a much better result."

The JV team won its match, 1-0. Meghan Gottfried scored WHS' only goal in the 19th minute. Brooklyn Carroll picked up the assist. Goalkeeper Mckenzie Nelson had three saves.
