FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Appalachian State's baseball team rallied from two deficits, but could not overtake Arkansas in a 7-6 loss to the Razorbacks on Saturday.
The Mountaineers trailed 6-2 after four innings and 7-3 after six innings. But the Mountaineers (0-2) rallied to score three runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull within 7-6.
William Head singled in a run and scored on Dillon Dobson's triple. Dobson scored when Arkansas right fielder Brian Anderson overthrew third base trying to get Dobson.
App State's Preston Troutman was hit by a pitch with one out in the top of the ninth, but Head was called out on strikes and Jaylin Davis grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.
Former Watauga standout Tyler Moore was stuck with the loss after allowing four yearn runs in 3 1/3 innings. Moore struck out three batters in his 61st career appearance with the Mountaineers.
Arkansas (2-0) rapped out 11 hits, including a 3-for-5 effort from Anderson.
Dobson led Appalachian State's seven-hit attack by going 2-for-4 from the plate. The middle of the order was particularly productive for the Razorbacks as batters No. 3-6 in the order had nine of the team's hits and five RBI.
Appalachian State takes on Arkansas in the third game of the series, which is at 2 p.m. today.
