Pursley hired to coach at Tuscola

After one season in the college ranks, Tommy Pursley decided to get back to coaching in the prep ranks.
Pursley was hired to be the Tuscola High School head football coach Tuesday morning by the Haywood County Board of Education. The vote was at 9:30 a.m.
Pursley was an assistant coach at Watauga High School during the Pioneers' state 3-A championship season in 1978. He returned for the 1979 season before accepting the head coaching position at South Caldwell the next season.
He was also a defensive back at Appalachian State.
Pursley made his mark on prep football in North Carolina by being the head football coach at Northeast Guilford High School from 1993-2012. He was the defensive coordinator at Brevard College in 2013.
Pursley averaged nine wins per season at Northeast Guliford. His teams reached the state playoffs for 20 straight seasons, and his teams won seven conference championships, six district championships and three regional championships.
His teams also made two state championships appearances.
His teams also won 180 games at Northeast Guilford and 226 overall as a head coach. He was the defensive coordinator for North Carolina in the 2003 Shrine Bowl and the defensive coordinator for the West in the 2007 East-West All-Star Game.
