It seemed with Watauga's Sydney Farthing or Rebecca Hayes were serving, Hibriten's defense struggled.
Both served up long stretches of points in Watauga's 3-0 sweep of Hibriten in volleyball Wednesday at Lentz-Eggers gym. Watauga (12-6, 6-5 Northwestern Conference) pulled away to take a 25-16, 25-14, 25-7 win over the Panthers.
Farthing served 32 times against the Panthers. Most of those serves turned into points, especially during a stretch in the second game when Watauga turned a 12-12 tie into a 23-12 lead. The Pioneers combined two kills from Sarah Peterson, two kills from Hayes, two kills from Bryne Gould and some mistakes by the Panthers to win the set.
Farthing also served up eight straight points in the third game to give the Pioneers a 12-4 lead.
Farthing finished with four serving aces and added 11 digs defensively.
Hayes served the ball 14 times, which included four aces. She took over the serving duties with Watauga leading 17-7 and led the Pioneers to eight straight points. Sierra Hill had two kills during the stretch, which also included a kill from Meredith Farthing.
Hill's final kill clinched Watauga's win. She finished with six kills.
Hayes led the Pioneers with 13 kills, while Peterson had 11 kills. Meredith Farthing had eight.
Savannah Rushing dished out 21 assists while playing in just two of the three sets.
Watauga plays at Mountain Heritage Thursday and hosts Patton on Monday.
