Pioneers' softball team bounces back

HICKORY — Watauga’s softball team scored in every inning in its 17-2 pasting of Hickory in six innings Friday night.
Watauga’s Taylor Drummonds went 4-for-5 with a double and triple. Kim Robinson went 3-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored. Three other Pioneers — Riley Pudney, Michala McCune and Elizabeth Dollar each had two hits. Pudney hit a double, a triple and scored three runs.
McCune added two doubles and scored a run, while Dollar had a double and two runs. Megan Jackson went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
Robinson gave up four hits and struck out nine on the mound. Both teams scored two runs in the first inning, but Robinson held the Red Tornadoes scoreless the rest of the game.
Watauga slowly started to build a lead. The Pioneers led 3-2 after two innings and 7-2 after four. The Pioneers broke the game open in the fifth inning with four runs, and put the game away with a six run rally in the sixth inning.
