by Steve Behr Sports Editor

Watauga’s volleyball team lost 3-1 to Fred T. Foard in the final of a five-match homestand for the Pioneers.

Foard, after losing the first set 22-25, came back to win the next three 25-22, 25-23, 27-25. Watauga lost all five of its matches during the homestand, and will try to rebound at Hickory on Tuesday.

The Pioneers had a chance to win the last two sets, but could not close out the Tigers. Watauga led 23-22 in game three and 25-24 in game four, but Foard found a way to win each set.

Watauga got 18 kills from Channing Hagaman and 13 from Meredith Farthing. Rebecca Hayes added 11 kills and five serving aces. Farthing added five blocks defensively, and Ashlyn Van Dyke had 30 digs, several that she had to dive to get.
