Pioneers dominate Clash of the Classes
by Staff Reports
Watauga’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams easily won the Clash of the Classes meet held at State Farm Fields Saturday.
Since there is a race for freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors for both boys and girls, scoring of the meet was similar to a track meet with the winning team getting the highest score. Normally, cross-country meets are scored with the winner getting the fewest points.
Watauga’s girls’ team easily won with 64 points. Lincoln Charter finished with 24 points to take second.
Watauga had five runners in the overall top 10. The Pioneers also won two of the four classes, including Darby Middlebrook, who won the senior event in 11:7.72. Madison Harman was second with a time of 12:12.05, while Doria Kosmala was third with a 12:29.55.
Watauga’s Lynde Wangler won the junior race with a time of 12:46.85. Celia Jackson was third with a 13:04.47.
