by Steve Behr Sports Editor

The Carolina Panthers made selections in the fourth and fifth rounds on Saturday.

In the fourth round, the Panthers grabbed Edmund Kugbila, a 6-foot-4, 317-pound guard from Valdosta State, a Division II program in Valdosta, Ga.

Kugbila helped lead Valdosta State to a Division II national championship in 2012.

In the fifth round, the Panthers took inside linebacker A.J. Klein from Iowa State with the 148th overall pick. Klein, who is 6-1, 250-pounds, was a first-team All-Big 12 selection by the league's coaches after finishing with 117 tackles and an interception, which he returned for a touchdown.

The Panthers added Oregon running back Kenjon Barner with the 14th pick in the sixth round. Barner ran for 1,767 yards on 278 carries for the Ducks in 2012. He gained 341 yards and scored five touchdowns on 38 carries in a win over Southern California.

The Panthers took Star Lotulelei with the 14th overall pick in the first round and Purdue defensive tackle Kawann Short in the second round. He was the 44th pick overall.
