Appalachian State got a verbal commitment from quarterback JP Caruso, who is considered one of the top quarterbacks in Palm Beach, Fla., area., according to the Palm Beach Post.
Caruso, who is 6-foot-1, and 200 pounds, chose Appalachian State over Air Force, Akron and Florida Atlantic. He attended Appalachian State's football camp in June and plans to enroll at App State in January. That would allow him to participate in spring practices.
"I wanted to make my decision early," Caruso told ESPNWestPalm.com. "They were my second offer and they were on me ever since."
Caruso threw for 1,046 yards and 13 touchdowns and an NFL quarterback rating of 94.1 in junior season at Palm Beach County high school. He led the Gators to the Class8A regional quarterfinals.
The Mountaineers, who open fall workouts on Aug. 2, return two-year starter Jamal Jackson to the offense. The Mountaineers also signed highly regarded quarterback Taylor Lamb last season, who is expected to be in camp this fall.
