Okam transfers to Winston-Salem State

by Staff Reports

Appalachian State men's basketball player Brian Okam has transferred to Winston-Salem State, according to a published report.

Okam, a 7-foot-0 center from Nigeria, played two seasons at App State after transferring from Rutgers. He will have one year of eligibility left at Winston-Salem State, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

Okam played in 10 games during the 2012-13 season. He averaged 8.3 minutes, 1.3 points and 2.2 rebounds per game for the Mountaineers. Okam played in 15 games in 2011-12.

He sat out his first season at App State after transferring from Rutgers because of NCAA transfer rules. He can play right away at Winston-Salem State since the Rams are Division II.

The Rams also picked up 6-7 Stacy Caroway, a transfer from Morehead State, and 6-10 center Freddie Scott, a transfer from Delaware State.
