Notebook: Pioneer baseball camp starts July 15

The 17th Annual Pioneer Baseball Camp will be held July 15-18 at Watauga High School's field.
The camp for those ages 7 to 9 will be held from 8 am. to noon, while the camp for those aged 10 to 12 is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $75 for those who preregister and $80 for those who register on the first day of camp.
Those who participate will receive instruction on hitting, fielding, throwing, baserunning, pitching and bunting. They also will receive a camp T-shirt.
The camp is run by Watauga High School baseball coach Pete Hardee. He will be assisted by Watauga players and assistant coaches.
Players who attend the camp need to bring a glove, hat, sneakers, baseball shorts and sweat pants or baseball pants. A bat is optional.

The Sun Belt Conference officially added Georgia State, Texas-Arlington and Texas State to the conference Monday.
The three teams had already agreed to join the league. They were slated to join the league on July 1. Texas-Arlington joins as a non-football playing member.
Appalachian State and Georgia Southern officially join the league on July 1, 2014 in all sports. Idaho and New Mexico State join as football-only members.

The UNC Charlotte athletic department officially returned to Conference USA on July 1.
Charlotte, which was a founding member of C-USA in 1995, left the league in 2004 to join the Atlantic 10 Conference.
