NWC baseball, softball brackets are set

Watauga's baseball and softball teams found out officially where they would play in the first round of the Northwestern Conference Tournament.
Watauga's baseball team (14-10), seeded third, hosts sixth-seeded St. Stephens at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Watauga's field. The Pioneers just beat St. Stephens 12-0 Friday night at Watauga's home field with the help of two home runs from Ryder Jones and a home run from Jesse Illich.
The winner takes on the winner of the No. 2 seed South Caldwell and No. 7 seed Hibriten at 7 p.m. on May 3. The semifinal games and the championship game, which is at 7 p.m. May 4, are at M.S. Deal Stadium in Granite Falls.
Watauga's softball team, seeded sixth, opens its tournament at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at No. 3 South Caldwell. The Pioneers struggled in their final week of the season by losing 12-1 to Hibriten and 15-0 to Foard.
The Pioneers could see Foard again in the semifinals. Foard, seeded second, hosts No. 7 seed Hickory, also on Tuesday. The Pioneers would face Foard at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Alexander Central's home field.
Alexander Central is the No. 1 seed for both the baseball and softball tournaments.
