Mountaineers fall to Campbell 11-6
by Staff Reports
THOMASVILLE -- Campbell took an early lead and never looked back in its 11-6 victory over Appalachian State in a nonconference baseball game played in Thomasville.
Campbell scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, and led 7-4 after the third inning. Michael Delucia belted a three-home run in the first inning to put the Camels in front 4-2, which countered Appalachian State's Will Callaway's two-run home run in the top half of the first.
Callaway, Noah Holmes and Jaylin Davis all had two hits for the Mountaineers. Preston Troutman and Gabe Dimock each hit sacrifice flies to try to keep the Mountaineers close early in the game.
Appalachian State pulled to 7-6 after Callaway and Holmes scored on a Campbell error on a ball hit by Dillon Dobson in the fifth inning. Campbell struck back with another home run by Delucia. His two-run blast put the Camels in front 9-6.
Appalachian State turns its attention to a key Southern Conference series beginning Friday at The Citadel. ASU also plays at The Citadel on Saturday and Sunday.
