Moore pitches App State to win over Elon

ELON -- Appalachian State's Tyler Moore continues to dominate Southern Conference opponents.
The former Watauga pitching standout tossed a complete game in Appalachian State's 10-4 victory over Elon Friday at Latham Park. Moore struck out seven Phoenix batters and allowed just three earned runs in helping the Mountaineers (14-22, 8-5 SoCon) even the series with Elon 1-1.
Moore scattered 11 hits, but walked just one batter. He improved to 8-2 this season, and his ERA is 3.08.
Moore got help offensively from Jaylin Davis, who went 3-for-5 from the plate. Davis, who had a first inning RBI triple, drove in three runs in the game
His RBI triple, coupled with Davis scoring on a passed ball, gave the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead.
But he was just getting started. Davis added a two-run triple in the fourth inning.
Appalachian State also got a two-run home run from Bradley Morton, which was his first collegiate home run. Appalachian State, leading 8-3, added two insurance runs in the ninth inning to go up 10-3.
Elon scored a run, but Moore was able to finish the game on the mound for the Mountaineers.
Tyler Stroup finished with three hits for the Mountaineers. He also scored two runs and had an RBI. Michael Pierson added two hits, scored two runs and drove in a run.
Quinn Bower led the Phoenix with two hits and two RBIs
Game three of the series between Appalachian State and Elon begins at 2 p.m. Sunday. Left-hand pitcher Jeffrey Springs will take the mound for the Mountaineers.
